Be captured by the rhythms of Umbaqanga, traditional Southern African music with a catchy contemporary feel - an unforgettable night of dance.

Chris Gudu’s up tempo and exuberant music is what is often referred to as 'Township Jive Music' and is better known in Southern Africa as Umbaqanga music which sometimes presents a touch of Afro jazz. Umbaqanga music originates from the streets and sheebeens of Soweto, spreading all through and across Southern Africa. When describing his style of music, Chris says "When you listen to the music, it doesn’t tell you to sit down and listen- it tells you to get up and dance!".

Chris Gudu's line-up features a combination of African and Australian musicians. The Chris Gudu performance is worth experiencing, not just once but over and over again. As Chris says “I live to perform live. There’s a real closeness, an interaction, a sharing. The groove is magic!”

Chris Gudu has been a significant part of the African music journey in Australia. Stan Goma describes Chris Gudu in the book World Music, Global Sounds in Australia as “one of a handful of truly great African bass players in Australia”.

Three years after the release of his first solo hit album, Chris Gudu returns with his latest inspiring and dynamic album, Imnandi, true to his Zimbabwean roots.

This album which contains the rhythmical spirit of Zimbabwe was recorded in Sydney, Australia and produced by the band lead guitarist Michael Coggins.

Chris Gudu has described the album as carrying a real message both lyrically and musically. The first tune
“Mhuri Ye Zimbabwe” is a very powerful song which he wrote in acknowledging the beauty of his homeland and
its hardworking people. Other songs in this album celebrate life in general, spirituality, humanity and harmony.

It is hard to resist the rhythms from Imnandi. Dancing to this album is an inescapable part of the experience.
