One Hot Night in Sydney

Vanguard - Wed November 16, 2011

The rhythms of Zimbabwe return to The Vanguard as Chris Gudu and his seven piece band embark on an Australia-wide tour to launch the release of his new album 'Imnandi' in Australia.

His solo tour follows the last tour of the country with the South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela a couple of years ago.

Chris Gudu who comes from the city of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe has an amazing stage presence with the ability to mesmerise his audience with some tricky dance moves while the band churns out some high energy township jive or umbaqanga music.

As usual Chris Gudu's music is designed to entertain, to make you feel good and to make you move. The new album is filled with such grooves and rhythms.

'The Chris Gudu performance is worth experiencing, not just once but over and over again' - The ABC.

This Sydney show is not to be missed for anything.

The Chris Gudu Band will be accompanied by special guests the sensational Miriam Lieberman and the awesome True Vibenation.

The Rhythms of Zimbabwe Return

Mittagong Playhouse Sat Sept 10th

It was almost 4 years ago when the Chris Gudu Band sold out the Mittagong Playhouse during the tour of Chris’s earlier album Bavimbeni. Chris Gudu and his band return to the Southern Highlands with their unmistakable township jive music. As before, this Mittagong Playhouse concert is part of their album launch. This time the Chris Gudu Band is proud to unveil their brand new album Imnandi which was produced by the lead guitarist Michael Coggins.

Southern Highlands based all women group Rapunzel’s Party will be performing as special guests.

Rapunzel’s Party are Helen Archer, Louise Bell, Margaret Bradley, Geralyn Cheers and Olive Hodgson. Along with soaring vocal harmonies, these versatile women play guitar, flute, harp, recorder, tin whistle and percussion with passion and sensitivity. They perform a compelling and constantly evolving array of songs and music, exploring themes of love, life and liberation.

With an enchanting blend of styles including acappella, celtic, soul, folk rock and world music, they entertain with unique interpretation of songs from many sources as well as creative original compositions.

Chris Gudu describes them as “rather very special guests” following the amount of fun that both the bands and the audience had at the previous concert at the Mittagong Playhouse. The two groups coming together promises to be a great night of entertainment not to be missed.
